Sign-ups are happening this week for two Kerr PTA sponsored programs,  After School at Kerr (ASK) and Math Pentathlon!  Details have been sent home with the kids.  Special thanks to the PTA parents who take time out of their schedules to pull together and run these events, please take a look below and sign up soon!

After School at Kerr (ASK)

This program starts the week of January 26th and offers a variety of classes to meet the interests of all age groups including, Legos, Pottery, Fishing with Mr. Hart, Duct Tape and Rainbow Loom, Volleyball, Yoga and more!  Costs vary based on the program chosen.  ASK and course information can be found here.

In-person registration will happen on the following dates:  Monday 1/12 from 4:00-5:30 pm and Tuesday 1/13 from 8:15 - 9:00 am

Math Pentathlon

This is a fun and educational program held after school on Thursdays where the children learn to play games that reinforce math concepts!  The seven-week program ends on March 7th, when kids from across the Fox Chapel Area School District meet at Dorseyville Elementary to play the games they've learned together.

The cost of the program is $25 per student.  Scholarships are available.  Please return the registration forms to the school in a envelope marked Math Pentathlon by Thursday, January 15th.  Call or email Maureen Lynch ( This email address is being protected from spambots. Parent Volunteers are needed for both programs!  Please consider donating your time to help keep these two PTA programs running and running smoothly, thanks!

Thanks to all of you that have signed up to be part of the PTA and those of you that have volunteered to be a committee chair for the year! 

While the PTA Board is fully staffed for the current 2014-2015 school year, the following positions will be available next year.  Please start thinking about these positions and whether you or someone you know would be a great fit!

  • Vice President
  • Secretary

Please note that these positions rarely (if ever) require your time during the school day.  Each position is very flexible.  Most importantly, the Kerr PTA cannot operate next year unless these positions are filled.

Last year was the first year Kerr held the Read-a-Thon Fundraiser.  The fund raiser was a great success raising over $5,000 with just 52 students participating.  This year, the goal is to increase student participation and raise even more money for the school!

This fundraiser allows schools to raise money while promoting reading.  The program requires a total of ten 30-minute reading sessions to be completed by the child over a 2 week period.  Reading sessions will take place during school hours in December this year.

A great thing about the program is that Kerr teachers and students choose the books that will be read, there is no dictated reading list.  The important thing is the reading time not the reading materials.  PTA Board Members will be meeting with Teachers in November to run through the programs website and process and answer any questions.

Money is raised from sponsors that support the child’s reading efforts.  Information and Student Readers pages will be sent home with students in November.  This program runs online and students can seek sponsors through print, email and social media tools.  

Please help raise money for the school by reaching out to potential sponsors for pledges.  Pledge amounts can be paid online using a credit or debit card.  Most parents, teachers, and sponsors prefer the online donation system so that children are not collecting or handling money. 

However, if a computer is not readily available, checks can be sent into school with the students marked Read a Thon – Kerr PTA and the information will be entered for the sponsor.

Halloween has passed and the holidays are approaching!  Start your preparation early by ordering your poinsettias and wreaths now.  The order deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 19th and pick up is Friday, Dec. 5th.  Order forms are linked below.
